Open Access

Starting in January 2024, the Journal of Environmental Health transitioned to an open-access publication. This change means that our Journal content is available to anyone to read and explore. Open access provides equitable access to research and information for ÂÜÀòÊÓƵ health and other allied science professionals across the globe.

Options to View the Journal

You can view complete electronic versions of our Journal (called the E-Journal) on our website, including the current issue or past issues going back to 2012.

The E-Journal contains all the same great content as the Journal, plus readers can:

  • Access web links and email addresses found in articles, advertising, and listings
  • Quickly find information using the search feature
  • Bookmark pages and articles for quick reference
  • Download the full issue as a PDF for offline reading
  • Print desired pages or the complete issue
  • Share content via social media to keep your colleagues up on recent research from the field

One of the benefits of NEHA membership is that we email our members when an issue of the Journal has been posted on our website. Be the first to check out the new content by making sure your NEHA membership is up-to-date.

New in 2025 is the opportunity to view individual articles and search for content via keywords and within issues and content categories using our new . Content from the 2025 issues is on the site, and we are working to upload past issues to give you more content to search for and explore.

Print Copies

We will discontinue printing hard copies of the Journal after the June 2026 issue. As such, starting June 20, 2025, we will no longer take print subscriptions from members, agencies, universities, or organizations. This date enables us to completely fulfill any active hard copy subscriptions, ensuring that all subscriptions get the promised 10 issues of the Journal in hard copy format.

Eliminating the printed hard copy of the Journal was not an easy decision for us, but it makes sense for a variety of reasons:

  • Print is not a sustainable practice, either ÂÜÀòÊÓƵly or financially
  • Elimination of the printed hard copy reflects our organization-wide efforts to reduce the amount of paper we use
  • We print and mail fewer than 600 copies of the Journal, which is not cost-effective
  • The majority of our readership prefers to access the Journal online
  • The elimination of printing and mailing costs frees up our budget to offer you more content
  • Numerous scientific publications have discontinued printed hard copies of their journals

We provide easy access to our Journal content—either on our website as full issues or on as indexed articles and columns. In both cases, you can read the content online, download it for offline reading, share the content with others, and even print out the content if you prefer.
